1. Wear Resistance and Friction Reduction Principle
High Density + High Hardness: Post-sintering density exceeds 99% at high temperatures, with a Mohs hardness of approximately 8.5. The tightly packed crystalline structure resists abrasion, cutting, and wear from particles like sand, gravel, and slag.
Smooth Surface: Microscopically flat and pore-free with low friction coefficient, ensuring smooth material flow while reducing adhesion, scaling, and friction-induced wear.
2. Impact Resistance and Crack Prevention Principle (Core: Phase Transformation Toughening)
This is the most critical distinction between zirconia and conventional ceramics (e.g., alumina):
At room temperature, the lining exists as metastable tetragonal zirconia;
When impact or compression induces cracks, localized stress triggers a martensitic phase transformation from tetragonal to monoclinic phase;
This phase transformation involves slight volumetric expansion, closing cracks, absorbing impact energy, and preventing crack propagation, thereby significantly enhancing toughness and resistance to chipping or fracturing.
3. Corrosion Resistance and Permeation Prevention Principle
As an inorganic non-metallic sintered body, ceramic exhibits no electrochemical corrosion issues;
Its dense structure lacks interconnected pores, making penetration by corrosive media like acids, alkalis, and salts difficult. It remains stable against most substances except hydrofluoric acid and concentrated hot strong acids.
